Definitions

Mountain bike with front suspension - also known as a hard tail. Light and very responsive. Good for climbing the mountain trails.

Mountain bike with full suspension - also known as a 'full-sus' or 'soft tail'. Has both front and rear suspension. Heavier, but still responsive. Very good for descending at any speed. Takes out most of the big 'hits'.

Trail bike - which are only suitable for light rough-stuff, with straight bars, front suspension, off road tyres, .

Hybrid - 27" (700c) thin road wheels, straight bars, upright position for touring.

Road bike- 27" (700c) thin road wheels, curly bars (drop/racing), lower riding position.
